I was reading the book “Design of Everyday Things” for school and it pointed out all the bad designs in our everyday uses. After reading that book, I took things more critically. I observed door handles in public places and see the point – where exactly do you push sometimes? Why do you need to look for the door hinges for the clue about where it swung to open?
Today, I came across a new fax machine. I thought fax machines were straight forward – type the number in and something magical happens. This one today was over complicated. Well, it could do everything – scan, copy, fax, and probably shine your shoe. I inserted the paper, right side up, like it showed me. Good so far. Then I typed the fax number in and press “Start”. Good so far.
